New Prada glasses

My new Prada glasses have arrived!

I’m super duper excited about these new Prada glasses. Last week my other pair of lovely Prada glasses snapped, and my spare pair fell apart so I’ve been struggling to see for a week. I posted on my Insta story about the sad tale of my specs. Luckily the lovely @mardi.girl dropped me a line telling me about discounted Prada reading glasses on eBay. I do love a bargain so headed straight over to check them out. I found them for the same price on Amazon so immediately ordered them.

They arrived today and I am smitten!! I’ve made an appointment with the optician to check my prescription and order the lenses. Then I will be able to see at last. I paid £100 for my frames, the same available on Amazon.com for $160 or less.

Prada glasses always suit me so I stay with the same brand. They are Italian and so happily fit my ample nose! I haven’t owned a pair of black glasses before but with my silver hair I think it’s the best colour choice for me. What do you think?

I found the same Prada frames on amazon.com, so click here or on the image to find out the latest prices. More photos soon, once I get my lenses! Thanks again @mardi.girl x

New life after 50

Why do I take so many selfies? Well, it’s like I woke up one morning and had time for …….me! With an empty nest and a downsized life I have a lot more time. Free time was lacking in my life until I hit 50. When asked what my hobbies were up until this point, I would always answer ‘sleep!’. Hitting 50 for many is not a high point in their life, but I was euphoric the moment I hit 50. Given that there are so many ways to die (and having avoided all those) I triumphantly arrived at my 50th birthday, and it was quite a revelation!

I expected to feel old and haggard, wearing crimplene stretchy dresses, shuffling about in Hush Puppy flat shoes and wearing fogey specs. But (much to my relief) I discovered quite the opposite!
There’s a gap of 10 years in my photo album between the age of 35 and 45 when I looked and felt dreadful. So I’m making up for the lack of photos during that period with daily photos of my ageing face. It will be interesting to see me ageing in my Insta history as I continue to post in years to come.
I feel it’s like taking photos of a baby. It’s a new life, and that’s me, starting a new life after 50.

Fisherman Chic for the week

It’s going to be fisherman chic again this week as we have lots more lovely (I may as well embrace it as it’s here to stay) rain forecast. Yesterday I headed out to the small town of Ashburton with Katie, Emily and her boys, 5 Vizsla and the Scrat Pack (Katie’s dogs) to explore the countryside of south east Dartmoor. Of course it rained, but it didn’t matter as we chatted and laughed through woodland, moorland, up hill and down.

Emily, Katie and I decided to try out a rope swing we found in a tree. The two boys didn’t seem half as keen as us three – in our 20’s, 30’s and 50’s!

We washed the mud off the dogs using a fantastic little portable shower that I keep in the car, put on their drying coats and popped them inside their cosy crates for a short while, so we could head to the ‘Hound of the Baskervilles’ pub for a snack and a pint of cider.

I discovered there are some fabulous little independent shops in Ashburton, so will pop back soon for a stroll around to take some photos and maybe have some tea and cake.
Several people contacted me about the Fifty Sister T Shirt I was wearing in my story on Saturday, so I will sort out making it available online so that I can use some of the profits to help others. I will post a photo and a link as soon as I can – thank you for your support…as always! x

540 million miles

Thank you so much for all the lovely comments and messages regarding my post about ageing yesterday.
I want to scream positivity from the rooftops and encourage positive discussion about ageing, so that our daughters, nieces and young friends don’t fear ageing like so many of us in our 40’s, 50’s and beyond have done.
We are good enough. In fact, we are at our very best. Why else would we have silver hair?
Dig out your best dancing shoes with a bit of sparkle and dance away any worries about ageing.
Embrace it, treasure it, know ageing is the reward for all those orbits around the sun.
Each day we travel 1.6million miles. So each year we travel 540 million miles. So in my 52 years I have travelled 28080000000 miles! So there’s bound to be some wear and tear.
How incredible are we…?! #matureskin #over50 #over50andfit #silverhair #ageing #positivity #positiveageing #over40 #grayhair #pelogris #floralkimono #ageisjustanumber #silversister #maturewoman #50plus #scream #midlifecrisis #over50style #over50influencer

10 things I love about ageing

The message I receive the most is from women about to turn 50. They are scared, sad, depressed, stressed and confused as to what they should wear and how they should change their appearance. They are lost and don’t want to age.

In answer to those lovely ladies, here are 10 things I love about ageing.

I am not dead. Seems obvious, but lets celebrate every day our hearts beat and our lungs fill easily with air to keep our bodies saturated with the invisible wonder that is oxygen.
Laughter. The longer I live, the more laughter lines I gain to remember each shared giggle and smile.
Silver hair. Having spent 35 years hiding my sparkles, I am thrilled to set them free. Jeez, what was I thinking colouring this head of perfection?
High heels – goodbye! Gone are the days of burning feet and noisy heels. Embracing flats & sneakers, has made my old feet incredibly happy.
Underwired bras – Farewell! My boobs are no longer constrained in a metal cage which restricts my breathing. My boobs are happy in a stretchy lace bra and girl…they feel free! Wear your boobs as high or as low as you like, whatever makes them happy.
Just relax. I have learned that stressing does not make anything better. If you are still alive and nobody else died, you are good to go and ready for the day.
Feeling funky. Wear what the heck you like. Who cares what anyone else thinks..? Not me!
How much makeup? Wear makeup, don’t wear makeup. Do what makes you feel confident and happy. It’s your face!!! Do what you want with it.
Self care. Having always put others first, I now understand why it’s important to take time to look after your body and soul. Nobody cares about your body as much as you should.
Self love. I now truly love my stretch marks, cellulite, peach fuzz face, wobbly bits and (most of all) each and every one of my scars, which is a memory of when my body battled to defend and preserve my precious life.

To summarise: Ageing rocks. Dying sucks.
Living a kind, happy life, empowering and helping others each and every day will bring you joy.
