Happy birthday Bird

Happy birthday Dirty Bird. As it’s your birthday, I’ll let you lick the salt water off my face. Knowing you the way I do, after 10 months of getting to know you since you arrived from the rescue coordinator, that mouth has been around something smelly and rancid within the past 24 hours.

I love the way you pounce on the bed in the morning like tigger, so excited to see me, like I’ve been gone for a year. The way you tell me that you want a treat by sitting next to the snack cupboard. The way you trash the bunkers on the golf course – sheer ecstasy, as you leap in and out, and go round and round. The way you nibble at your food, like a little (but hungry) lady. The way you chirrup, like a little bird, when you are tired of waiting for me to wake up. I especially adore the way you never leave my side, on land or in the sea.

I’m so happy you found a new home with us, I’ve loved every minute. Oh except the time when you slid your back across a dead dolphin, and the day the public toilets were closed and you ate …. ahem… maybe I won’t mention that. I’ve forgiven you.

2 today!

F&ck you Sonia!

If you’ve been wondering how much better the iPhone 12 Pro is… this image is straight off the phone, no light changes, just natural light, taken in the shade under a tree today whilst out hiking. I’m completely blown away with the focus and lighting.

I’m so happy I caused a lot of you to smile or laugh out loud with my reel yesterday. Making people laugh is a skill I hope will stay with me forever. When things get tough, try to do something to cheer up others. You will cheer yourself up in the process. Click here if you haven’t seen it and want to watch it.

And as many of you said ‘F@ck Sonia!!!!’ ? Which really made me smile.

Thank you all for your support, I am so happy to have this amazing community to share snippets of my life with, and to follow along on other people’s journey too. It’s far more rewarding and beneficial than I could ever have imagined.

Much love xxx

I thought it was too late for me

I’m not being patronising when I suggest fuelling your body with nutritious food (as per yesterday’s post).

Before embarking on my vegan journey, I was at least 35lbs heavier than I am now. My hair was thinning, I was tired, my legs were so swollen you couldn’t see my ankles and I could barely walk.. (really!). I wanted to sleep every hour of every day, I was completely exhausted.

I was jumping on planes for business trips, then cramming leisure trips in as often as I could in an effort to make myself feel better. Together with complex house renovations I was working every waking minute of every day.

I ate when I could, whatever I could find in foreign places. Grabbing anything to stop the hunger. No meal planning or concern for the ingredients or nutrients.

I had an under treated, underactive thyroid for a long time, plus I wasn’t taking care of myself at all.

One day, my body just stopped. I couldn’t walk without severe pain and my whole body ached. Just blinking my eyes hurt. Everything hurt. I couldn’t see the point of my existence. I couldn’t see a future for me at all.

I remember laying on the floor sobbing, (thinking I was alone in the house), saying out loud ‘I wish I was dead’. My son heard those words, he was 8.

It’s a much longer story… but I can tell you since switching to a vegan diet and lifestyle my body has sprung back into life. No more aches and pains. I feel 16 again, and for that I am truly grateful.

The reason I mention food as fuel so often, is that I want everyone to have the opportunity to regain their energy levels and feel good again.

I thought it was too late for me. I am so happy I was wrong.
